You’ll likely go to La Cruz de Loreto, La Gloria, or Las Penitas.
La Cruz de Loreta is a hotspot for surfing in Puerto Vallarta. With swells from the north, south, and west throughout the year, there’s never a bad time to go surfing in La Cruz de Loreta.
La Gloria is also a top choice. You can also enjoy waves all year at this spot, so there’s never a bad time to go. Oh, and you can also expect some action here, with waves topping out at 10 feet.
Then, there’s Las Penitas. This is considered the premier surf destination. It has five spots in all, and most provide year-long waves. If you want to enjoy some tube riding, you’ll need to visit from July to September, though.

South Coast Beach Surf Includes:
Departures: Runs daily at 6:00am. We meet at our surf shop in downtown Puerto Vallarta (address will be on your confirmation vía e-mail), we’re really close to the Malecon.
Length: Approximately 12 Hours.
South Coast Beach Surf Recommendations:
Children: Minimum age is 15 years old (must be an experienced surfer).
Cruise Ship Passengers: This excursion is too long for cruise passengers.
Restrictions: This surf trip is for experienced surfers only; the beach is decided depending on the surf report. If you’ve never surfed, check out our surfing lessons instead!
Insider Tip: Our instructors will take you to the best local beach south of Puerto Vallarta. While there are restaurants, the south beaches are also semi-pristine. They’re not exactly teeming with tourists and in consequence, the restaurants aren’t always open so we suggest prepping your bag with beer and snacks just in case (a cooler is suggested).
