When it comes to Puerto Vallarta hiking tours, the ever-popular Las Animas hike is a perennial favorite. It's hands-down one of the most unforgettable southern coast experiences you can have while hiking in Puerto Vallarta.
Our adventure starts with a scenic 30 minute drive from Old Town Puerto Vallarta to Boca de Tomatlán, a charming little fishing village south of the city. Upon arrival in Boca, our departure point, we'll give you a quick safety briefing and set out on our way through the jungle. Have your camera handy, because there are photo-worthy opportunities around every corner!
Near the halfway point we’ll stop at Colomitos Beach, one of the smallest beaches in the world. But don't let its size fool you, the cozy beachy charm of this Colomitos hike is huge! After a quick swim and photo break at Colomitos, off we go to Casitas Maraika, a gorgeous private beach club.
Here we'll be treated to a bit of the good life with cushioned lounge chairs, delicious food, and even cocktails! We’ll have free time to enjoy their private beach, or continue on our Las Animas hike. If you wish to explore Las Animas beach and village, this is your perfect chance!
Filled to the brim with sun and fun (and maybe some rum?) we'll climb aboard a Mexican speedboat, also known as a panga, and zip right back to Boca de Tomatlán. The scenic drive to Boca is somehow even more beautiful in reverse, so we'll relax and enjoy a new perspective as our time together comes to an end.

Departures: Departs Old Town Puerto Vallarta every Tuesday with a minimum group of 2. Groups of 4 to 6 can choose to go Monday through Friday (we avoid weekends to avoid the local crowds). We specialize in small groups as we prefer to tread lightly through nature in this special place, but we can accommodate larger groups. Exact meeting instructions will be provided on your confirmation voucher.

Private Colomitos & Las Animas Hike Recommendations:
Children: Children are welcome, however we recommend them in good physical condition and previous hiking experience. During the dry season, there is less shade so the hike can be a bit demanding for young children.
Cruise Ship Passengers: We are happy to accommodate cruise ship guests even if your ship does not arrive on a Tuesday. Let us know your ship itinerary and we can look into adjusting the start or return times to fit your time in port.
Restrictions: There are no real age restrictions, but for any hiking tour, it is best that you are in good physical condition. As in most places in the world, hiking takes you to remote locations that do not allow quick access to medical services. This hike has about 3 steep inclines that last only a few minutes each, the rest of the trail runs more or less along the coast line. We go at your pace; so as long as you can navigate some moderately challenging terrain, this hike in Puerto Vallarta is open to you.
Insider Tip: We recommend good sturdy shoes, but there are several places where you may want to stop and take a break at a small hidden beach cove, or have to cross a small stream, so sports sandals may be the best choice. The place where we stop for the beach break is shortly before the main part of Las Animas where all the big catamarán tours bring hundreds of tourists daily. We even have our own little cove away from any other guests at Casitas Maraika where they set up large umbrellas, cushioned loungers. We will provide you with a plate of delicious appetizers, but we strongly recommend bringing extra cash to try out some of the other fresh options they offer out there. Simply amazing! Also amazing between October and March is the Military Macaws that hang out in the trees behind the casitas. If you are a bird lover, bring your binoculars!!
