LET US HELP YOU PLAN YOUR TRIP.
YOUR MAZATLAN ADVENTURE IS JUST A CLICK AWAY
The El Verde Camacho Sea Turtle Sanctuary & estuary is a very special place to meet the Mazatlan sea turtles. Also known as the Olive Ridley turtle, one wave from their baby flippers and your heart will melt. This is sea turtle conservation at its finest! On this fun and educational Mazatlan eco tour, you'll help the sea turtles get their start in life, then immerse in the beauty of the wetlands as you meander through the mangrove forest.
Very important! You can explore the gorgeous estuary grounds any time of the year, but guaranteed Mazatlan sea turtle release season is July - November and can extend into January.
El Verde Camacho Sea Turtle Sanctuary
Established in 1988, the Verde Camacho Sanctuary encompasses 21km of beach and mangroves to provide a protective area for the Olive Ridley turtles to build their nests year after year. Passionate biologists monitor the turtles and collect data on the species all year round. Because of their work in this protected area in Northwestern Mexico, they release over 100,000 baby sea turtles here every year!!
A fan favorite among Mazatlan tours, your sea turtle adventure gets underway with an educational briefing learning about the turtles and the conservation efforts. Next up is the turtle release, which is something you'll talk about for years to come. It is truly an incredible experience, and a boat ride through the mangroves is the perfect way to wind down afterward. Glide peacefully through the prehistoric looking mangrove forest as migratory birds and marine life of all kinds hang out in their natural habitat.
Participate in the Sea Turtle Conservation in Mexico
This visit to the sea turtle sanctuary in Mazatlan isn't just limited to what you can do with your hands. It also puts money in the pockets of the people who need it so the sanctuary can continue. Conservation efforts cost money, and a lot of it! So that's just one more thing to love about choosing this tour with our friends at El Verde Camacho Sea Turtle Sanctuary. A portion of every tour sale goes directly to the conservation project. Choosing to support sustainable tourism and conservation projects is a great way to leave your footprint while traveling. The Olve Ridley turtles appreciate it and so do we!
Because Mazatlan excursions like this are such an immersive (and exclusive) experience, this tour has a minimum number of people. If the minimum is never reached, you will be offered a chance to upgrade to a private tour, or cancel altogether with no penalty.

Insider Tip: Very important! You can explore the gorgeous estuary grounds any time of the year, but Mazatlan sea turtle release season is July - January. In our humble opinion, a turtle release experience should be on everyone’s Bucket List. Of course, the Mazatlan sea turtles are a wonderful choice, and the Camacho Verde Turtle Sanctuary operates year round. However, if you’re visiting on an off-time of year, please try to visit us again one day between July and November! The baby sea turtle release is really something you’ll talk about for years.
Important Booking Note: The boat portion through the mangroves may not operate when the sea levels are too low, or the mosquito population is too intense with a risk for dengue fever. In those instances, we will spend more time at the education center instead of the boat ride through the mangroves.
